So this lens helps with all apps, not just Canvas right?
I gave the Canvas app a quick test this morning and got some data that is only slightly better than what I've seen with the Room Capture app. Maybe the lens really helps that much but I still wouldn't trust just the scan data for creating CAD information for anything other than marketing. It could certainly be helpful for ballpark data.
As much as I want to purchase this lens... I have yet to find a decent app for this scanner that works reliably. And it's been years now. The scanner app is probably the best at the moment but the range is very limited and the 'smart' bounding box can get irritating when it cuts off detail at the base of the object being scanned. I'm afraid I'll put even more money into this scanner and still be frustrated and disappointed.
[these were with the Scanner app, as long as the bounding box is small you can capture small details roughly. If I could get this level of detail but with more coverage through Canvas, it could be useful.]
Seems like most people want to scan - A room, An object, A person.
Itseez3d was the only app that ever gave me any sort of decent quality mesh - but it did all its processing remotely and now charges per scan.
I want to see Occipital update their scanning app to allow for similar offline processing with Skanect. The Uplink feature makes setup more complicated and doesn't make the scanning process easy when on the go, which I thought was the point to connected a scanner to an ipad.
Can anything be done to give more options for scan size / quality / detail within the other Structure apps? Or allow capture data to be dumped onto a desktop to be processed by Skanect?
My best setup continues to be a Carmine sensor connected to a macbook air and using Skanect. It's a very clunky setup but it's mobile and has consistently gotten me results that are on par if not better than a Structure connected to an iPad. ItSeez3d was the only other option that got better people scans ever so slightly.
Sorry I'm just frustrated and skeptical seeing another costly accessory that promises to help my scanning cause...
