Adding the scanner app features to unity

I’m really new to doing anything with the structure sensor and developing stuff, so sorry for noob questions.
I want to add the ability to scan an object to Unity like you do in the Scanner app. As a first step I would just like to be able to scan it, nothing else.
The thing is I don’t really know where to start, so would be nice if someone could give me a direction on where to start.
